7 mile run today.  felt even better than I did yesterday.  I found out that alot of my bros aren't gonna do track this year, and I'm kinda bummed.  I mean, I get that it is their senior year and that it's track, but it's still sad.  Also, we had a kid come out today that did the run in jeans and high tops.  What a beast.

Started off my run unsure of whether or not I would be able to do more than the half mile warm up.  Coach had me do some stretches, and then I got another 30 min in.  I ran the straightaways with Jaiden on their mile repeats.  Forgot how much I like to go fast.

I was really flat today, probobally because of the ACT, and I didn't really go into it having that high of expectations.  I kinda just glided through it, and finished strong at the end.  I got 4:54, which is a 2 sec PR, but I totally could've gone and run that again.  2 mle cooldown and stretch.

Today was a wierd race.  We warmed up thinking the meet would start on time, but it ended up starting 30 minutes late.  I ended up starting my race over an hour late.  So my warmup ended up being pointless and alot of my pre race routine was useless.  

Even though all of that happened, I still ran a great race.  My start kinda sucked, but I managed to keep my pacing pretty consistant, passed a bunch of people on the last lap, and ended up getting 4:48.  Solid 6 second PR.

Not my finest day.  A series of mistakes were made this week.  I got a massage on Wed, and then proceeded to go hiking around Dixie Rock until 11 at night; I didn't bring enough food to eat during the day,  I psyched myself out because it was super windy and hot, and as a result, I only got 4:50. It's pretty close to my PR, but when I finished the race, I knew that I could've hopped right back on the track and done it again.  

Even though it's frusturating to end up running a slow race, I've decided that it doesn't really matter how bad of a race you have.  What matters is if you let that bad race haunt you for the rest of the season.  If you know that you can do better than your worst, don't sweat it.  Get back up, try again, and blow that time out of the water.

Crazy day today.  Got to the meet, and the weather was perfect.  Slight breeze, overcast, and about 73 degrees.  Perfect day for running until... the thunder and lightning started up.  Was a little bit concerned about not running at that point, but they let us out to go warmup only 30 minutes behind schedule.  Amazingly, the weather felt even better after a brief downpour, so I felt optimistic.

Before the race started, I decided that I wasn't gonna worry about splits, pacing, or any of that crap.  There's a time and place for it, but that wasn't now.  I took off my watch, stepped up to the starting line, and went ham.  Got out quick, and got about a 69 for my first lap.  Stuck right around there (guessing by effort) for the next lap. 3rd lap I started to drop the pace hard. Coach said that I was way under for BYU, but I kept going faster.  Last 300, there were 6 guys directly in front of me, and coach yelled "Next 6 Gibby!" so I went and got those next six.  Finished in a 4:41, which is a solid 7-8 second PR for me.

As awesome as that was, I'm even more amazed at my teamates. Tyler Phillips got spiked right off the line, and he PR'd by like 6 seconds.  He's going to go get stitches right now.  Awesome dude.

Started doing morning runs again. Figured that, if I'm back into working order, then I can do morning rund. Wierd weekend. To start it all off, I had the AP US History test; so that was fun. Then I drove all the way to Corner Canyon High School so I could play one song in our State Band competition. After that, I drove back to Provo, so I could stay with the team. At that point it was 9 at night, and I still hadn't gotten dinner, so we went to Cafe Rio.

The next day, I raced the 1600. Ran a 4:46, which is pretty okay, when all things are considered. When I was done with my race I was a little miffed, to me and Matthew whent off on our cooldown, and ended up doing another 6-7 miles in the rain on the canyon trails. 

Watched a bunch of our sprinters break some school records. Awesome day.

I had a little bit of a revelation today: I really like running the 800. It was my first time trying it out today, and I went 2:07 (1:03, 1:04), which is apparently a really good time. Awesome day today. Expecting to get first in the JV race, and that's what I got. Went up to the line, feeling great, and shot off. Settled in at around 7th place, and sat there. Went through the 1st lap at 1:07. The guy in first went through at 1:02, so I was hoping he would burn out by the end. Worked my way up to 5th by the end of the 3rd lap, and then I gunned it. I managed to catch Julian at around the 200 mark, and I finished at 4:39. Good PR, and I got 1st, so that's awesome. Didn't qualify for state, but that's okay. I'm just gonna go run like 15 miles tomorrow with Matthew and Boston instead.

It was only supposed to be a 18 min tempo today, but, I'm running at sea level in Seattle, so I decided that it'd be okay to do a bit more. My aunt tood me to this awesome trail by her steak center in Maple Valley. There was a canopy of trees overhead the entire way, so it was like running in the Rainforest.

We went and hiked aroud Mt. Reineer for like 5 hours today, so I'm gonna count that as my second run today.

Probably the worst pre race workup in the history of the world. Got into bed at 9 the night before, but it would seem that I wasn't destined to get to bed on time. My grandparents keep thair house at like 82', so I was sweating bullets (literally) trying to get to sleep. It didn't help that everyone was partying like crazy either, cuz everytime I was about to drift off, a massive mortar would go off above the house and wake me right up. So, I didn't fall asleep until about 1 in the morning. 

All things considered, the race wasn't terrible for what it was. I got a decent time considering that it was longer than a 5K and I only got 4 hours of sleep, but I got to race against some collegiate athletes, so that was fun.

Rough run today. Got back from our vacation at like 5 and decided to go running. Haven't been keeping myself hydrated well, so I felt like I was going to die. I didn't feel the best today. I've been sick for a few days now, so I was a bit flat. nevertheless, I still placed pretty well and beat some guys I haven't beaten for quit some time. Would've liked to be a bit closer to Bryson and Spencer, but I'm sure I would've been up with them on a better day.

Didn't see my time though, but the time I put down is my best guess as to what I got. They made the course quite a bit longer, so I can't compare my time with anything. I've ran here in the past.

Desert Relays race today. I ran the first leg of the race, which was about 1.08 miles. Ran about a 5:29, which is pretty good considering how slow this course is. Didn't feel like I gave it an all out effort today, which I guess is probobally due to the race only being a mile long, and in the middle of XC. 3*5:00 cruise intervals afterwards. Good workout after the race.

14 mile loop today @ Navajo Dr. Coach finally got to show us this loop that he's trained on for quite a while. Very pretty and fun run. Afterwards, I dind't fele nearly as tired as I thought I would, which is nice considering that was the farthest I've ever ran by a decent margin. Good stuff today.

First race as a varsity runner. I was pretty pumped going into it, and it wasn't a half bad race.  My start was pretty crummy. I got caught behind about 20 guys, and it took me the greater part of the first 2 miles to get through all of them. By that time, I was too far behind to catch up to the pack of 4 Pine View boys ahead of me. Regardless, I still ran pretty well. I PR'd by over a minute on that course, and got top 10. Not a bad day.

Progression run today.Was supposed to do 30 min. but coach told me to cut it back to 20 min. halfway through. I guess it was too hot for us to do the full workout today. It threw off my plans as far as pacing and timing were concerned, but I still managed to go 6:15 for the first 15 min, then I cut the pace down to basically an all out sprint by the last minute. A bit of a wierd run, but a decent workout nontheless.

Wierd race today. Got out super good, and settled into my race pace. Decided beforehand that I'd get out quick to avoid the bottleneck of the first 100 meters, then I'd settle in. Went through the first mile feeling pretty good. Second mile I was going WAY too slow. Guess I was just so focused on staying relaxed that I wasn't paying attention to my speed. Started hammering the pace, and passed quite a few people too. Ethan came up on my shoulder right around 600 meters to go, and I knew there was no way I'd let him beat me. Finished really strong. Top 30 got shirts, and I was 31st :(. Oh well. Pretty good race nonetheless. I took off over a minute from my time here last year, and I get to go to Woodbridge!.

Pretty awesome run. i found a bush with some awesome white lilies that I gave to my sister down there too, and she thought that was pretty awesome.

Awesome workout today with the Varsity Boys up @ Hatch. We stayed overnight in Trinity's Grandparent's cabin. Woke up at about 6:30 for our run, and it was 32 degrees outside! Nice change from the usual 80+ degrees in the morning that I'm used to. 

5 mile warmup. Ran by a lot of horses, and we played a bunch of mind games with them. That was fun. The workout was a 1:1, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4, 5:5, 4:4, 3:3, 2:2, 1:1, fartlek. Pretty hilly trail, and we were at altitude, so it was a pretty good push. Cooled down for milage. Ready for a nice nap after a long, hard week.

1.5 mile shakeout run this morning

Raced at 9:52 at night. Pretty crazy race.

Everyone went out SUPER hard, so I got out the best I could. It was completley gridlocked for pretty much the entire first mile, so it was really hard trying to pass people. Went through the first mile at 4:54. Things started to thin out a bit, and I tried to start catching up to Bryson and Spencer, but everyone was racing really aggressivley, and weren't letting me pass them. Went through the 2 mile at 10:10-10:18. I didn't see my exact split. Was getting fed up with everyone at this point, so I started to get aggressive. By the time I hit the 800, I had passed at least 15 people. Ethat came up to me around here too and tried to pass me, but I surged pretty well and he fell off. Hit the last soccer field with about 600 to go, and I was feeling way to good, so I hit the jets. Passed like 10 more people there. Got a 15:28. It's an okay time, and a PR for me, but I was really hoping for something closer to sub-15. I'm sure i would've done better if I could've stayed with Bryson and Spencer for the first mile and cut through all of those people, but whatever. On the way back home, we got stuck in traffic until 3 in the morning, so that sucked. Crazy day.

Every 5 seconds, the next person goes, then 5 seconds later the next person goes, and so on. I was the 4th to last to go in my group. Pretty crummy race today. I tried to get out good, but everyone went out crazy fast, and got stuck behind a lot of people. Went through the first mile at a pretyt okay time. 2nd mile hit and I had absolutley no energy, and I couldn't push up to where I wanted to be. 3rd mile I just kinda 'got through' it and finished as well as I could've.  I finished 18th. I know that on a different day, I definitley could've gotten into the top 10, but whatever. As long as I don't choke at state, I'll be fine.

We drove up to Salt Lake after the race and camped out at Coach Madsen's place for the night.

Crazy race today.

We went out at what I would call a "suicide pace" for this course. We went through the mile in like 5:19, which is normally okay, but for the first mile on this course, that's pushing your luck.Was feeling a bit flat after that mile, so I decided to just lock into a pace and see what would happen, but then Alex Hill and Logan Hall from Pine View came up from behind me and started pushing up and trying to pass me. I managed to drop Alex after about a half mile, but Logan stuck right on me, and we went back and forth for pretty much the rest of the race. I bided my time until the last hill on the last mile, with about 700m to go, and then I took off with whatever I had left. Managed to edge out in front of him, and almost caught a Cedar boy . Just got nudged out of a medal, but whatever. I still helped our team to win our 5th straight Region Championship, and I finally figured out what has been making me so flat for every race. Just need to fine tune a few things, and I'll be good to go and smash some heads at state.

Amazing day.

We woke up, and took all of the clothes we had gathered, and took them down to the park, and handed them out to the homeless people. Awesome experience. 

Went up to coach's room, had our final pep talk, and went over to the state course. 

The race went pretty good. Got out well, settled in after the first hill, and just coasted for the first mile. Was feeling pretty gassed after the big hill at the end of the mile, but I started going anyway. Pineview's varsity had all gone out together as a big pack, and I knew that I'd have to catch most of them if we even wanted a shot at winning. Cought their 7th guy at about 1.3 in. Cought up to Logan Hall at around 1.8, and stuck with him for about a quarter mile. Then I started going. Passed Nick Hill at about 1000m to go, and just kept on going. Caught another 4 or 5 guys and almost passed Julian as I finished. Overall, it wasn't too bad.I didn't feel flat before the race started, and I had plenty of energy to do what I needed to do.  Everyone else onour team did really swell too, and we were able to win state for the fourth year in a row! I'm super glad that I was finally able to be a part of our team't legacy.

Workout over at Warner Valley. We did 4*200 m starts, then 6*800 @ goal race pace. Supposed to go 2:28-2:35. Went 2:30, 2:27, 2:35, 2:27, 2:32, 2:26. The course we did the repeats on was hilly, but definitley more hilly one way than the other (as reflected in my times.) My calves were feeling pretty tight, and I wasn't sure if I would finish the workout, but I still hit all of my times nontheless.

Pretty crummy race. I got out quick, but I still got stuck behind a bunch of people. Went through the first mile in like 5:05, so right on pace. At around the halfway mark, my stomach decided that it didn't want whatever was in there, so I started throwing up. Just swollowed it down and kept going. Finished the best I could, but still had a really crummy time.

Our team finished 10th. This is pretty far from what we wanted to achive today, seeing as how our goal was to get qualified for nationals. I think that, if everyone on our team had a good race (the only person that ran really well today was Ethan; eveyone else choked), we would've done it. But whatever

The drive home was crazy. Coach Powell's car got totaled, so we had to squeeze the girls team into our car until we could find them another ride. Super fun drive.

Workout to day over at Warner Valley. It was a 3 mile warmup, 5*3:00 hard with equal recovery, then4*20 sec hard with equal recovery. The workout starteed out allright, but my stomach decided that it needed to empty its contents after the second 5:00. After that, I just did the best that I could, and finished as well as I could.  Gonna have to figure out what I'm doing wrong for the future so I can get through these hard workouts without completley falling apaprt.

got my wisdom teeth out today. Gonna be out of running for some time. Kinda a bummer, because that pretty much makes all of my training thus far pointless, but it will be good to get this whole ordeal out of the way
