| Major fartlek workout today at little valley. We went 1:1, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4, 5:5, 4:4, 3:3, 2:2, 1:1. Each of the gold boys took turns leading a repeat, and everyone had to group together with that person. I led the last 2. I felt really good, and I'm trying to push up with the varsity boys. | SUU invite today. My alarm decided it didn't want to go off, so i had to rush out the door with a banana and glass of chocolate milk to drive up. The race itself didn't go the best. I went out a bit too hard, and didn't even have enough energy to kick at the end. I felt pretty flat, and just couldn't get into my rythym. I think I've been putting too much pressure on my self to do awesome and get on varsity. I just need to step back, look at my goals, and just run my own race.
And I need to figure out why I haven't felt fresh since Cedar All-Comers.

| BYU today. Been waiting for this day for a long while. Gun went off, and I was flying. I almost feel like I went out a touch too fast. 1st lap felt fine. Moving ahead of schedule. 2nd lap was a pure mental battle to not barf everywhere. Still hung in there, and managed to make up ground in the 3rd. lap. Got a 17:01, and placed 10th. I'm happy with my placing, but I wish i could've run just a bit faster in order to go to Woodbridge. Oh well. If I had to choose between Woodbridge & state, I'm definitley going to state. Gotta make it happen.

Michican workout under the lights today! For those who don't know what the michican is, it is:
1600, faster than your 3mi. pace (5:15-20),
1 road mile slower than your 3 mile pace (5:45-6:00ish),
1200 faster pace than your track 1600 (4:00 or faster)
1 road mile, same pace as before
800 at a faster pace than your 1200 (2:30-2:40)
1 road mile, same pace as before
All out 400. If you can break 60 sec. on the last 400, coach will buy you dinner.
I hit (or went faster than) all of my splits, and I got 60 sec. flat for my last 400. Pretty solid workout, although I really wanted that free dinner.

16*400m. today @ Veron Worthen Park. Definitley a tougher 400 loop than Little Valley. The plan was to go 1:12-1:20 for the first 12, then drop it as much as possible for the last 4. I went 1:20 for the first one, 1:13-1:16 for the next eleven, then 1:11, 1:11, 1:12, and 1:10 for the last 4. Pretty hard workout today.

| 6 mile warm up out behind Sullivan Soccer Park. Found a sweet new trail out there. 5 mile steady state/tempo run by myself. Hit 6:00-6:15 for my splits pretty consistently. Felt suprisingly good considering the monster workouts i've been doing this week.

Duel in the Desert vs. Pineview. Held at BHNP (course record: 16:08. Held by Kale Sharp). Cool and rainy day. Couldn't ask for better weather! Went out with the top group, and just stuck right behind the lead PV kid. We let him lead for the first mile. After the first mile, Scotty took off and stole the lead, and I stuck right behind him (shout out to Scotty for two slip n' falls around the hairpin on laps 2 & 3. Way to take it like a boss!) 3rd lap Matthew took off, and I went with him. I tried to stay as close to him as possible, but I was just too gassed from the 2nd lap. At about 800 m. to go, Riley and a PV kid started to pass me, and I said "Nope! Not gonna happen!" I passed the PV kid with about 50 m to go, but Riley out kicked me by about a second. I got 17:03. Pretty solid time, especially on this course.

| Canyon View today. This is a chance for the top JV boys to run varsity while they're at Woodbridge, and I was expecting to do good. I got out fast, and settled right into my pace. Scott started dropping the pace after the 1st mile or so, and I stuck pretty close to him. I finished strong, and almost caught Scotty at the very end. I ran a 16:35. I feel pretty good about it. Hoping to PR or break 16 @ Nebo!

| 3 in the morning. Workout @ BHNP. We did 3*1mi. chase-downs. The way it'd work is you'd be in a group of people, and the slowest person in the group would start. Then, every 5 sec., the next fastest person would go, and so on until you. Your goal is to catch everyone in front of you, and not get caught. My time on the first one was about 5:15, then coach told us to take off our watches and just run. The next 2 felt just as fast, if not faster, so I'm pretty good with it. 4*200 finishes, and 1 mi. cooldown afterwards. Getting pumped for Nebo. I really wanna break 16.

Nebo Invite today. I got out quick so that I wouldn't get caught behind people (the start funnled really quick). The first mile I just stuck behind the top 10 or so guys and cruised. Around 1.5ish Scotty caught up with me, and I stuck right on his tail for the rest of the race. Didn't have that strong of a finish. I think I would've gotten 2nd if I kicked harder. I got a 16:38 for a 5k.ish race which, when converted to 3 mile is about a 16:02; so really close to getting my goal of 15:40. Hopefully I can do that @ Cedar.

Got to run varsity today because the boys are in Arizona for the Twilight Invitational.
Started out good, and got into a rythym. My stratagey was to sit right on Scotty's shoulder for the first 2 miles, then drop it as much as I could for the last bit. First mile we went around in about 5:17, and Scotty started pushing it. We passed about 20 people on that 2nd mile. lol. As we crested the parking lot hill, I took off, and didn't look back. I got a 15:37. YES!!!!!!! My goal was to get sub 15:40 this year, and I did it!!!! All that's left to do now is to take that varsity spot, and then go to State/NikeSW/NXN. Great effort from everyone.

7 out at Navajo Dr. It was nice to get away from the usual trails and go somewhere else for a change. Afterwards Darrel (I think that's his name), the man with the most logged miles (over 300,000), came and talked to us about his life. Pretty awesome
After that me, Scotty and few of the other varsity boys went on a recruiting trip. A new kid just moved in from Virginia, and we went and visited him. He ran a 4:57 as a freshman, so he looks to be pretty promising. Just got to get him off of football ;)

| Region 9 finals today. Racing in the JV race. Hoping to do pretty awesome.
Got out quick and settled in. After the first 200m I know it was going to be a looong race because my legs were allready flat.
Stuck at about 5th for the first 1.5 miles, then started to pick more people off. My goal was to stay as close to Scotty as possible for the first couple of miles, then take the lead. I was doing pretty good, and then with about 1200m to go, I started to close the gap to pass him. He was duking it out with Paul Gona from PV, and I snuck up on bolth of them. But just as I was passing them, Matt Thatcher blew past all 3 of us like it was no big deal. >:p I closed the gap pretty well in the last 400, but I couldn't quite catch him. Got a 16:46, which is a lot slower than I though I would get, but they did change the course, so I think it's longer now. Pretty ok race considering how crummy I felt.

| 3 in the morning. 3*mile repeats today @ treasure valley park. We did 4*200 starts first, then we did our repeats. The goal was to go 5:38 for the first 2, then 5:20 for the last one. I went 5:34, 5:36. and 5:07. Not too hard of a workout, but it felt good to go fast anyways.

Tough workout @ Little Valley today. 2 mile warmup, and then 4*200 starts. Next, we did 12*400s. The goal was to hit 1:13 to 1:10 for the first 8, then 1:08/all out for the last 4. Hit 1:13 to 1:10 for the first 8 like I was supposed to, then went 1:09 to 1:07 for the last 4. Pretty tough workout with the rain and my legs feeling pretty flat. Cooldown and ultragen afterwards. Coach gave an awesome motivational speech before the last 400. He should be a motivational speaker. He's pretty good at it.

| 10 mile progression run today @ Warner Valley. The first 5 miles were easy, then the next 3 were at 6:30, then the last 2 were at your "goal race pace." I went 5:24 for the first mile, then 5:20 for the last mile. A bit slower than I would've liked, but it's been a really tough week, and my achilles was killing me the entire time. Afterwards, we went to the Big Sky XC Championships and watched the collegiate athletes race. Pretty insparational. We went to Dennys after. Awesome day!

| Well, I really couldn't run today. Apparently, I did something crazy to my calves, and I couldn't run at all today. That sucks. After practice, I went to Adam and he fixed my leg up pretty good. Probobally the most painful experience of my life. Lol. Hopefully, I should be good to go for the Michican Tomorrow

| Well, I'm injured. I'm thinking that I have something along the line of tendonitis in my achilles, and it really sucks to run on. I'm actually kinda concerned that it might be a tear, so I'm going to be taking it easy for awhile. Pretty mad about it though. If I can't be completley recovered and back on my feet by next week, this pretty much skrews my plans for nike this year. .

| Tried running again this morning and afternoon. Didn't go too well. Coach just said not to worry about it, and just bike/aqua jog for now. So I just went to the gym and did a hill workout on the eliptical. Pretty bummed about not running. Just gonna have to ride out the week on a bike, then hit the ground running next week

| Well, I'm still out. I tried running in the morning, and it was fine the first quarter mile, but then my leg started to act up, and I called it there. Guess I'm not running for the rest of this week too. Guess I'm kinda out of the running for NXN for good then. I've kinda accepted it at this point. And it's okay. Others have been doing this longer than I have, and deserve it more than I do.

| I finally felt good enough that I decided to try running today. Coach only said to go 10 minutes though. Felt good to run anyways, even if it was for so short a time. I'm thinking I might be better, but I'm not sure yet. My achilles didn't hurt nearly as bad as it used to, but afterwards it is pretty creaky and a little sore. I guess I'll just have to see.

| At long last, I am now allowed to go running again. The doctor said that I had sprained my achilles, and that I needed to take another 3 weeks off. So I did. Now, I'm allowed to do 3 miles a day, which I can live with. At least it's something.
